PerformancePoint Services for SharePoint

Overview

PerformancePoint Services, now integrated into Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, is a performance management service that you can use to monitor and analyze your business. It enables you to create rich, context-driven dashboards that aggregate data and content to provide a coplete view of how your business is performing at all levels; create customised scorecards; and has improved analytic functionality.

The easiest way to create and publish custom dashboards to meet the unique needs of your business is using PerformancePoint Services.

Features and Benefits

The Dashboard Designer application is the user's toolkit to create from the ground up:

  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Scorecards
  • Analytic Charts and Grids
  • Reports
  • Filters and Dashboards

Each of these features are unique to PerformancePoint Services and provide functionality that interacts with a server component that handles the hard parts, like data connectivity and security.

The pieces you build in Dashboard Designer will appear in the browser exactly how you created them and they are presented in a SharePoint page that understands who is viewing it and what they are authorised to see.

Other features of PerformancePoint Services:

  • Interactive analytic reports can be integrated with SQL Server Reporting Services and Excel Services.
  • PerformancePoint Services empower users by providing a flexible, end user focused development environment with extensive out-of-the-box functionality for defining and creating scorecards.
  • Rich visualisation capabilities including strategy maps, accountability mapping, and Microsoft Office system integration make information more actionable.
  • Analytical views can be shared and managed in SQL Server, Report Manager, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server Report Centre, or distributed in PDFF, HTML, or XML format.

Benefits

PerformancePoint Services helps users:

  • Gain deep contextual insight: through personalised scorecards, reports and analysis tolls to combine structured information with unstructured data
  • Build on the Microsoft Business Intelligence platform: take advantage of the enterprise-level reliability and security, high performance, and scalability of the Microsoft SQL Server Business Intelligence platform.

Integration

PerformancePoint Services 2010 are now integrated into the SharePoint Server Enterprise 2010 providing customers with a more robust deployment, scalability and performance model.
