Apple iPad 3 tablet set for release
Following on Apple’s normal device release schedule with the release of the iPad 2 tablet in spring 2011, spring/summer 2012 looks set to see the arrival of the iPad 3 tablet. It’s almost certain this device will see the introduction of the Retina display giving the sharpest, most vibrant and super high-resolution screen on any tablet device available on the market. Siri, the voice recognition software that debuted in the iPhone 4S smart phone, will likely be included in the iPad 3 tablet. Other less verifiable inclusions are a thinner, lighter and longer lasting battery, curved glass display and 3D display.
Windows 8 operating system set for release
Microsoft announced in May 2011 than the next version of Windows (Believed to be named Windows 8) would be released in the following year this now looks set to be during the summer period here in the UK. Windows 8 Explorer will utilise the ribbon interface similar to the Microsoft Office applications. It is also expected to have native USB 3.0 support as well as being bootable directly from a USB drive. There will also be a tablet version of the OS. Windows 8 will come with Windows Store, an online market place (no dis-similar from iTunes) for the buying, selling and advertising of applications.
O2 to launch Europe’s largest free wi-fi network in London for the 2012 Olympics
Mobile phone operator O2 announce the creation of what it claims will be Europe’s largest free wi-fi network for the London 2012 Olympics. This move will not only strengthen O2s position as a provider but will surely increase the use of both smart phones and tablets in and around the games.
OfCom delays mobile 4G spectrum auction
OfCom has delayed the auction of the 4G mobile network spectrum from early 2012 to late 2012. In a statement, OfCom explain that this was to allow for another round of consultation. While some may feel this is a sensible there is wide spread belief that the UK is beginning to lag behind much of the world in the speed of its mobile communication network harming many businesses around the country.
