IRW Systems are pleased to be involved with Strathclyde Fire and Rescue’s charity cycle in aid of The SFR Family Support & the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund. This event will see 3 members of the Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Team cycle the length of Great Britain, from Lands End to John o' Groats, covering approximately 900 miles. The cyclists will be tracked the whole way using IRWs very own Hawkeye Mobile GPS Tracking System.
Hawkeye is an IRW developed Mobile phone GPS tracking system which can pinpoint: geographical position, direction, and speed, of an individual, and provide this information securely to authorized viewers. Hawkeye can be used to log and report routes taken and can also do forward route planning. The system is run on Windows Mobile 6 application, situated on a GPS smartphone (as seen below). It has been developed for use in the areas of; business, domestic security, and leisure tracking of individuals, and is accurate down to a just few metres.
Throughout the journey, Hawkeye will send data from the Smartphone to a server located at IRW’s hosting facility. This data will then be accessed by web connected laptops, one in the back of the cycling teams support van and another at Strathclyde Fire and Rescue’s Headquarters, running Microsoft Map-Point. Using this software the progress of the three cyclists can be monitored and a visual representation clearly shown on a map.
Strathclyde Fire and Rescue commented “We are delighted that IRW are allowing us to use the Hawkeye GPS Systems. We believe that this innovative system can be used in a multitude of situations and look forward to investigating further adoptions”. Hawkeye GPS is currently used by a number of IRW clients to track company assets and the potential for the Smartphone is extensive. Ian Warnock, Managing Director of IRW Systems stated ”We are pleased to support this worthy charity cause, and to provide the participants with a valuable tool that will assist all interested parties in tracking progress and location across the UK. One of our target areas for Hawkeye GPS is recreational pursuits, where sportspeople may be in remote or wilderness areas and our system can provide accurate tracking even in poor signal areas.”
IRW wishes the firefighters all the best in their attempt and hope that a lot of money is raised for such a worthy cause. This is the 1st of three charity fundraisers we are assisting the Strathclyde Fire & Rescue with, the 2nd being for MacMillan Cancer Support and the 3rd again for The SFR Family Support & the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.
